Litchfield National Park Darwin

Darwin is considered the last wild frontier of Australia. Many people visit Darwin from all around the globe and explore it's many hidden treasures. The most well known of the Northern Territories attractions is Kakadu...but a less known but equally spectaular destination is Litchfield National Park. Many people prefer Litcthfield because it is close, has free entry and is basically just a wicked place to take a road trip too!

Litchfield National Park is a 60-70 min drive from Darwin down the Stuart Highway. The first place you will come across is Berry Springs. Only open during daylight hours Berry Springs is a popular place with locals to relax and cool off. There are vast areas of shady lawned areas where you can kick back and read your favourite book or just enjoy a refreshing drink. The water hole is refreshing and 'croc free'.

Just down the road from Berry Springs is Wangi Falls. Again a great swimming hole with two beautiful falls and a smaller 'spa' built into the rock wall. Wangi Falls offers awesome camping and has easy access via sealed roads or take the short loop and hit the gravel.

Heading back in towards Batchelor is Buley Rockpools and Florence Falls. Camping here is not as nice a Wangi but still acceptable. These waterholes are just awesome and you can easily lose yourself for days just relaxing and soaking in the suns rays.

Just recently we hired a wicked campervan for less than $100 a day and toured all through Litchfield. You can read about our crazy adventure here at Wicked Road Trips Austalia. So do yourself a favour next time you are up in Darwin and head on out to Litchfield National park and check it out!
